Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you want to know about D6scend — gameplay, release, STEM mode, and how to get involved.
Gameplay
D6scend is a 3D puzzle game built around a single, elegant mechanic: roll a cube through a maze and arrive at the goal with the correct face pointing up.
Every roll changes the cube’s orientation — so every step is a decision. The further you plan ahead, the cleaner your solution. The game is designed for players who enjoy thinking through problems methodically, where the satisfaction comes from executing a well-planned path through a complex 3D space.
You control a cube on a 3D grid. Using directional inputs, you roll the cube one face at a time through the maze toward the goal tile. The challenge is that each roll rotates the cube — so the face pointing up constantly changes.
To complete a level, you must:
- Reach the goal tile — navigate the maze without falling off or hitting walls
- Arrive with the correct face up — the target face is shown at the start of each level
There are no time limits and no lives — just you, the cube, and the puzzle.
D6scend starts approachable and scales to genuinely challenging. Early levels introduce the rotation mechanic with short paths and generous layouts. Later levels require planning several moves ahead and navigating complex 3D paths where a single wrong turn can make the solution impossible.
The rules are always completely transparent — if a level stumps you, it’s not because anything is hidden. It’s because the path hasn’t clicked yet. That moment when it does is the core of what makes D6scend satisfying.
Purchase & Release
D6scend is currently in active development with no firm release date announced yet. We’re focused on building a well-paced, deep puzzle set before committing to a launch window.
The best way to stay informed is to wishlist D6scend on Steam — you’ll get notified automatically when a release date is set and when the game launches.
D6scend is being developed primarily for PC (Windows) via Steam. Additional platform support — including Mac, Linux, and potentially consoles — may follow depending on the response to the initial release.
Controller support is planned for launch alongside keyboard and mouse input.
Yes — a playable demo is planned as part of our Steam Next Fest participation. The demo will include a curated selection of levels from the early and mid-game to give you a solid feel for the mechanics without spoiling the harder puzzles.
Wishlist on Steam to be notified when the demo goes live.
STEM & Education
Yes. D6scend’s core mechanic — tracking 3D cube rotations mentally — maps directly onto geometry and spatial reasoning curriculum objectives at the middle and high school level, and is accessible enough for motivated younger students too.
A dedicated STEM mode is being developed alongside the main game, adding:
- Curated educational level sets
- Optional in-game coordinate axis and face label overlays
- Planned classroom multiplayer and teacher dashboards
- Educator resource packs aligned to CCSS and NGSS standards
If you’re an educator interested in early access or curriculum collaboration, get in touch.
D6scend’s STEM mode is being designed with the following standards in mind:
- CCSS Math — Geometry standards for grades 6–8, including 3D shapes, coordinate systems, and rotational symmetry
- NGSS — Science and engineering practices around spatial reasoning and systematic problem-solving
- Computational Thinking frameworks — Planning, decomposition, pattern recognition, and debugging strategies
Formal alignment documentation and lesson plan guides are being developed as part of the educator resource pack. Learn more about STEM mode →
